India has many stereotypes and not without reason. With a diverse population and a very different culture, India’s reputation online isn’t the cleanest. However, with India’s fast developing culture, many things that still hold on a lot of our minds have changed. Here’s a list!
1. You will get a disease if you travel to India
Many people have a misconception that eating out in India will make you ill because of the locals’ hygiene. However, this is in fact untrue as locals take the utmost care in cooking. If you ever visit a street-side stall, you might very well be told off for stepping into the cooking area because of hygiene purposes!
2. Indians don’t speak English
This cannot be further from the truth. Most Indians know at least a few words of English, if not can hold a conversation especially if you’re asking for directions. Don’t be afraid to speak to them!
3. Everyone in India has an arranged marriage
Sure, some Indians still practise this but most locals are marrying when they find someone they want to be with. Arranged marriage is no longer a compulsory act and families don’t enforce it any longer.
That’s all for our list on traditional myths of India. Let us know if you have any more on your own list!
